When should you see a TMJ or sleep dentist rather than a general dentist?

Consider a dentist with orofacial pain training if you have ongoing jaw pain, clicking or locking, headaches linked to clenching, or if a doctor has diagnosed snoring or sleep apnoea and suggested an oral appliance. For check-ups, fillings and cleaning, a general dental clinic is the usual first stop.

Sleep apnoea is a medical condition, so an oral appliance is normally made after a doctor’s assessment or sleep study. If jaw pain started after an injury or comes with swelling or fever, see a doctor first. When you book, ask whether the clinic needs a referral letter, previous X-rays or a sleep study report.

How should you choose a dental clinic?

Check the dentist is registered with the Singapore Dental Council, ask for an itemised quote before treatment, and ask whether CHAS, Merdeka or Pioneer Generation benefits or MediSave apply. For costly work, ask for a written treatment plan and consider a second opinion.

What does each clinic list?

Details below come from each clinic’s or group’s website, checked on 3 October 2026. Prices are on enquiry.
