Should I see a polyclinic, a GP or a private gynaecologist?

It depends on what you need and how you want to pay. A polyclinic or GP suits routine screening and first checks, and can refer you for subsidised specialist care. A private O&G clinic lets you book a specialist directly and choose your doctor, at private rates.

RouteHow you get inChoice of doctorOften used for
PolyclinicAppointment or walk-in, depending on the serviceUsually the doctor on dutyRoutine checks, cervical screening, referrals
GP clinic (including CHAS clinics)Book or walk in directlyYou choose the clinicFirst consultation, screening, referrals
Public hospital specialist clinicReferral needed for subsidised ratesSubsidised patients are usually assigned a doctorConditions that need specialist care
Private O&G clinicBook directly, usually no referral neededYou choose the specialistPregnancy care, gynaecological concerns

None of the clinics above publishes prices in the listings we saw, so every one is price on enquiry. Ask about fees, and whether they include GST, when you book.

How do I check a doctor before booking?

Search the doctor’s name on the Singapore Medical Council’s online register of medical practitioners. It shows whether the doctor is currently registered and whether they are on the Register of Specialists for obstetrics and gynaecology. It takes about a minute.

  • Registration: every doctor practising in Singapore must be registered with the SMC. If a name does not appear, ask the clinic for the exact registered name.
  • Specialist status: a gynaecologist should appear as an O&G specialist. A GP offering women’s health services is registered too, but not as a specialist.
  • Current details: confirm the address, phone number and doctors with the clinic, since directories can lag behind.
  • Hospital affiliation: if you are pregnant, ask which hospital the doctor delivers at, because that usually decides where you give birth.

What should I ask when I phone a clinic?

Ask who the doctor is, whether you need a referral, what the first visit costs and includes, and whether a chaperone is available. Confirm the exact address and opening hours too, since some neighbourhood specialist clinics keep short or split hours.

  • What is the consultation fee, and does it include GST?
  • Are tests such as a Pap or HPV test, or an ultrasound, charged separately?
  • Can any part of the visit be claimed from MediSave or my insurance?
  • How long is the wait for an appointment, and which languages does the doctor speak?

Can I use MediSave or insurance at a women’s health clinic?

Sometimes. MediSave can be used for certain approved procedures, hospital stays and some screenings under MOH rules, but usually not for routine outpatient consultations. Integrated Shield and company plans vary, so ask the clinic what is claimable and check your policy before the visit.

For pregnancy, MOH sets the rules on using MediSave for maternity costs, and the clinic or hospital can explain what applies to you.

What else do people ask?

The questions below cover referrals, female doctors, register checks, first visits and how current these listings are. Each answer is general and applies to any clinic you are considering in or near Bedok.

Do I need a GP referral to see a gynaecologist in Bedok?

For a private O&G clinic, usually not: you can book directly. For subsidised specialist care at a public hospital, you generally need a referral from a polyclinic or a GP. Check with the clinic or hospital when you book.

Can I find a female gynaecologist near Bedok?

We have not verified the doctors at these clinics beyond the names in directory listings, so we cannot confirm this. If you would prefer a female doctor, or a chaperone during an examination, say so when you book.

How do I check a doctor on the SMC register?

Use the Singapore Medical Council’s online search for registered medical practitioners and enter the doctor’s name. The result shows registration status, qualifications and whether the doctor is on the Register of Specialists.

What happens at a first gynaecology visit?

The doctor usually asks about your health, periods, pregnancies and any symptoms, then may suggest an examination or tests, such as a Pap or HPV test if you are due. You can ask questions, ask for a chaperone or decline an examination.

How up to date are these clinic details?

We checked them on 4 October 2026, but they come from third-party directories rather than the clinics’ own websites, and one listing has conflicting phone numbers. Always confirm the address, hours and doctors with the clinic before visiting.
